Joyce Grow
I was born and raised in Charleston West Virginia and married my had high school sweetheart. I have had an interest in art in some shape or form and have dabbled in many different mediums. From painting designs on clothing, jewelry making, leather works, pottery and painting. I started first using acrylics then went to watercolors taking pointers from my aunt Adah Lynch who is well known in West Virginia for floral paintings. My mother, Betty Swiney was a beautician and I always thought that doing hairdos was definitely a form of art. My Grandmother Georgia Barnhouse was an artist and creative in many ways. She was a quilter, made pillows, raised a garden and loved flowers. She always could always find a way to make money doing beautiful things to help feed her twelve children. I guess you could say that I come by it naturally. I had to quit throwing pottery because of knee problems, And needed to find a new way to express myself. For Christmas, my husband bought me my first set of oil paints and now I am in love with creating new works of art.
I started taking lessons from Arthur Evans in January 2013. Arthur has exhibited his art throughout the country and in many venues.
I enjoy capturing the beauty in nature and yesteryear and feel such a sense of timelessness and peace in the subjects I choose to paint.
My art has been displayed in The Art Store and Purple Moon in the past and currently found in “Gonzoburgers” restaurant and both Gallery Eleven. I am a former member of Gallery Eleven which is the oldest Co-op Gallery in West Virginia.
